If you base league position on wages surely the fact he came third in his first season would be seen as a failure then???as our budget that season dwarfed anything in that division

The facts are he played Nolan and Noble in a five man midfield with a single striker at home to relegation strugglers Burnley, leaving Song on the bench. We won the game through a penalty and they played most of it with ten men.

Some people find this all well and good and even call it entertaining. I for one am not one of them.

Not true 13 BR. I was happy we won but I was left frustrated by what could have been. We had too many players as square pegs in round holes. We had Nolan who is plainly not up to EPL any more.

Clearly you have a lower expectation level than most of the rest of WHO which is fine but there is no need to be insulting just because your standards are low where football is concerned...

It was great to be able to witness first hand a classic Carlton Cole one on one miss. I really thought those times had gone. For my son to witness that on his last game of the season must have really choked him up as all the memories of similar occasions when Carlton was in his prime must have just come flooding back.

What was Pardew doing at the game yesterday, he doesn't play either us or Burnley?

Maybe he was looking for a shag

Re: West Ham v Burnley - Official Match Thread 1-0 FT
Brentford, got to disagree as if sakho were playing we still would've had the same pedestrian midfield not moving the ball quick enough with the creative players pushed wide to accommodate waste of space Nolan and if carrol was playing he's hardly prolific so we would've just reverted to type lumping balls up the middle and just depends if carrol was having one of his 'form' games or not.

What I do agree is that it's an absolute disgrace that amalfitano and nene have been rotting on the bench whilst captain kev remains in the team. That's got to be the biggest 2 fingers to the owners and if they renew his contract they really are 2 clueless, gutless buffoons

Aren't we already doing one since Christmas? And for most of last season?

He's not under achieving. He's getting it about right based upon wages which many believe to be a most relevant factor. You can't base it on transfers if, for instance, you've brought through youth ( ag ag ag) or brought in frees or loans.

I know a lot of you think we should be 6th or 4th or something just because we are West Ham but the facts don't really suggest that is true.

YES YES SOUTHAMPTON. Well, lets see where they are next year.

A change is definetely needed but I fear the board will take the same option and keep Sam for 2 more years at least just so we don't do a Newcastle. Underachieving with the talent in the squad but mid table makes Sam look like a fucking good manager to the pundits

I'm the same as you about Noble but do think he slows our play down too much. In my opinion there are other players out there in a similar bracket to Nobes that would improve our side. But I enjoy goals and decent performances much more from our own than players who are effectively mercenaries.

This probably extends to managers. I think I would enjoy going more if we were led by one of our own rather than a superior model like Rafa.

I didn't go yesterday for the first time in years.

Do you think it's vital that a West Ham manager has West Ham history ?

All that was missing yesterday was Sakho and or Caroll, had they played we would have won by more!

Nene looked good too and should be starting in front of Nolan which is my only gripe.

Hahahaha one of the comedy gold posts on here. Love you to enlighten us on this nice football we supposedly played as apart from a handful of decent footballing moves over 90 minutes of football against a woeful defence I can't remember leaving the ground thinking 'wow, what nice football we played today'

Burnley had their chances the fact they can't finish for toffee and Adrian made another couple of cracking saves is our saving grace and we won by a penalty. If that performance saw you 'satisfied' you really ought to set your heights a little higher mate

Thought we did well yesterday in terms of our attacking play.

Was always a worry though just being a single goal up.

Some of West Ham's recent performances have been appalling. Yesterday wasn't one of them. For instance, it seemed at times that Downing was having a stinker, but in fact he knocked over half a dozen inch perfect crosses that on another day would have been buried.

There's a difference between frustrating and bloody awful.
